Night at the museum - Verborgen kamers
Saturday 27 July 2024
20:00
- 22:30
Van der Mandelezaal
In the days before CDs, LPs or recordings of any kind, the best way to share a new musical secret was in the rooms, or as they would call them then, parlors of certain houses or mansions. Schubert shared his new works during his famous Schubertiades. Chopin poured out his heart and soul to his close friends and admirers. Liszt spread the word about his travels and shared transcriptions of the orchestral works or operas, transforming the modest rooms into grand theaters. Later, Schoenberg even called it "On and Off the Roof", not only presenting the renditions of the well-known pieces for a smaller setting, but also experimenting with his audience by presenting new, previously unimaginable musical language. Those concerts and those rooms were intimate gatherings of friends, who shared the most precious secrets and ideas with each other, and later dared to share them with the whole world.
Tonight after the concert you can enter the Museum Prinsenhof Delft to enjoy unexpected art and unexpected performances in hidden rooms!
