Kosmos

15:00
- 16:00
Van der Mandelezaal
Violinist and climate composer Tim Kliphuis composed the orchestral work Kosmos, with which he wants to inspire people to take positive action on the climate issue. He had in-depth conversations with top Dutch scientists and incorporated their stories and knowledge into his music. Will there ever be palm trees at the North Pole? Where do plankton go at night? And how do you get a different view of the world in a forest? In short: by carrying out the work he wants to make people think.
Tim Kliphuis performs with 17 young classical professional musicians: alumni of the National Youth Orchestra who are at the start of their careers. In addition to this musical experience, they receive intensive coaching in the areas of presentation, improvisation and creativity. The group consists of 5 string players, 10 wind players, 2 percussionists and a guitarist.
Scientist Aafke Fraaije will speak during the concert in the Van der Mandele Hall. She is a postdoctoral researcher in Art for Climate Solidarity at Delft University of Technology. In this case, the transdisciplinary methodology can be used to determine the level of technology on stage and even the discussion of science in the technological field. Her current research is about the honesty of empathy and solidarity in the debate about climate change through the visual and performing arts. She will include the experience of this concert in her research.
