Heleen Oomen studied clarinet at the Amsterdam Conservatory. She has a duo with pianist Mark Walter, during these concerts she plays the clarinet, but she also sings music by Dutch composers set to poetry. She is a much sought-after chamber musician and has played in recent years with musicians such as Lestari Scholtes, Birthe Blom, Charlie Bo Meijering, Joan Berkhemer, Daniel Rowland and Rosanne Philippens, and at festivals such as Chamber Music Festival Hoorn, Stift Music Festival and Chamber Music Festival Schoorl. She is also involved in musical theater, small and large opera projects and literary performances.

Heleen plays chamber music in her own collective Mokum Symphony, which focuses on implementing historical performance practice, and literary-historical performances with Stichting Feest der Poëzie, such as the performance, 'Een Rood Lied Zingt Er', about the poet Herman Gorter. Heleen is also active in the visual arts, for example she makes portraits cut from linoleum and does this on behalf of musician friends, publishers or other makers. After all, Heleen is also a clarinet teacher at the Amsterdam Music School.
