Rick Schoonbeek studied piano at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam with Willem Brons and took conducting lessons with Jan Stulen, Daan Admiraal and Daniël Reuss, among others. As a conductor and musical director, he was associated with Dario Fo, entrepreneurs in the arts, for 15 years. There he conducted many productions involving both amateur and professional singers and musicians.

In addition to the classical repertoire, Rick also conducts a lot of newly composed work, including several world premieres by Anna Kurson, Willem Breuker, Erik v/d Wurff, Micha Hamel, Bob Zimmerman and Burkhardt Söll. Rick regularly collaborates on jazz, musical and pop projects. With The Kyteman Orchestra and Alt-J he performed at the Low Lands and Pink Pop festivals. In 2013, Rick was the right-hand man of composer and conductor H.K Gruber at the special Threepenny Opera in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Concertgebouw. In 2015 he founded the Kwekers in de Kunst foundation, with which he led, among other things, the beach operas of Festival Classique. Since 2021, Rick has been the artistic and musical director of the Molto Foundation.
