Joey Marijs came into contact with percussion at the age of nine and it was love at first sight. He obtained his master's degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2005, where he studied with Wim Vos, Luuk Nagtegaal and Hans Zonderop. Joey has been a permanent member of Asko|Schönberg since September 2008. He is also part of Slagwerk Den Haag.

During his studies at the conservatory, he founded Ensemble Klang together with a number of fellow students. This Ensemble has played at home and abroad and has recently released three CDs. He is also part of the Anstatt dass Trio. This trio focuses mainly on the so-called 'entartete musik', in which music based on texts by Bertolt Brecht predominates.

Joey is also part of the David Kweksilber Big Band and can therefore play a wide range of styles in contemporary music.
