Born in Cambridge, double bassist Ying Lai Green won scholarships that allowed her to study at both Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she received multiple awards and graduated with top honors. Ying Lai settled in the Netherlands when she got her first orchestral position with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, she has enjoyed working with a wide variety of symphonic and chamber orchestras around the world.

In addition to her intense orchestral activities, Ying Lai has performed as a soloist in the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom and was recently invited to the Dutch premiere of Errollyn Wallen's Concerto Grosso for violin, piano and double bass at the Holland Festival in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Ying Lai is also a sought-after chamber musician and regularly performs at chamber music festivals throughout Europe.

She is currently principal double bass with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and solo bassist with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. She teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
