Teunis van der Zwart is one of the leading hornists of his generation. He is a recognized specialist and active as a soloist, chamber music player and teacher. As a hornist he made countless concert trips through large parts of the world with top orchestras and chamber music groups, including the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Collegium Vocale Ghent, Bach Collegium Japan and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, of which he is the first hornist.
Teunis played under conductors such as Frans Brüggen, René Jacobs, Jos van Veldhoven, Hidemi Suzuki and Ivan Fischer. As a soloist, teacher and speaker, he has appeared in many master classes, courses, concert series and festivals in Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan.
Since a few years he is mainly active as a soloist, teacher and conductor. In the latter capacity, he led the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra, The Royal Windplayers, the Sweelinck Baroque orchestra, the Salon orchestra Musica d'Amore and the Arezzo Ensemble, among others. Teunis is a principal subject teacher at the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague. At both these conservatories he regularly conducts the baroque orchestras.
