Pierre Laernoes grew up in Delft with a French mother and a Dutch father. His grandmother Denise Germain was a member of the first female orchestra in Paris and played saxophone, clarinet and piano in the Moulin Rouge. He continues this musical legacy with his popular band Pierre et les Optimistes, with whom he releases - together with Myrthe van de Weetering - his second album Sous le Chapeau. The style is based on French jazz "manouche", also called gypsy jazz, but is interwoven with influences from all over the world - with a very refreshing result.
Pierre writes unparalleled poetic lyrics in his beautiful mother tongue, sings and accompanies himself on guitar. Sometimes cheerful, sometimes melancholy, sometimes socially engaged: a reflection of his own life.
