Dutch double bassist Niek de Groot is considered one of the best-known classical bassists of our time.
Originally a trumpet player, he switched to the double bass at the age of 18. He soon became a solo bassist with various European ensembles, including 10 years as the first solo bassist for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Since 2006, Niek has devoted almost exclusively to chamber music and solo performances. Niek has been given the lifelong privilege to play the world famous bass of Domenico Montagnana from 1747.
