Fred Edelen - born in Bloomington (USA) - plays both the modern and the baroque cello. He was a solo cellist with the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra for three years and was a member of the Houston Symphony Orchestra until 2003. He then became a cellist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, since 2007 as deputy solo cellist. He has performed as a soloist with the symphony orchestras of Houston, Phoenix and San Antonio. He was also a prize winner at the National Society of Arts Letters Cello Competition.
Fred was a student of Janos Starker and Gary Hoffman and studied baroque cello at the Early Music Institute of Indiana University. Then he followed a training as a Fulbright Scholar at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Together with Christina Scott Edelen he forms Duo Edelen.
