Candida Thompson studied with the renowned pedagogue David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she obtained her solo diploma with distinction. She continued her studies at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada. Candida Thompson then won various prizes at competitions, including the International Jeunesses Musicales in Belgrade. As a soloist, Candida Thompson played with various orchestras in Europe, the United States and the Far East. For example, she played with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Symphoniker, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the English String Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Radio Chamber Philharmonic.
Candida Thompson is a passionate chamber musician. With cellist Xenia Jancovic and pianist Paolo Giacometti, she forms the Hamlet piano trio. From an early age, Candida Thompson has been leading chamber orchestras in Scandinavia, Spain, the Netherlands and Great Britain. From 1995 she was concertmaster of Amsterdam Sinfonietta and since 2003 she is also artistic director of the orchestra. Candida Thompson plays a violin by Guarneri, del Gesù.
